1.1 General
This European Standard appliesfor design, construction and testing of sensitive protectivedevices where the device is used to detect pedestrians including inparticular applications, slow moving elderly persons, slow movingdisabled persons and children who may be exposed to injury by poweroperated doors, gates and barriers, electrically powered from apublic supply and intended for installation in areas in the reachof persons, and for which the main intended uses are giving safeaccess for goods and vehicles accompanied or driven by persons inindustrial, commercial, public or residential premises. Thisstandard also covers safety devices for commercial doors such asrolling shutters and rolling grilles when used as doors on retailpremises which are mainly provided for the access of persons ratherthan vehicles or goods. Noise is generally not a relevant hazardfor this type of machinery." This standard deals with allsignificant hazards listed in annex A and specifies requirements toeliminate or minimise them. This standard covers the requirementsfor electrical powered safety devices using mains supply providedfor installation on or used in conjunction with powered doors inorder to avoid hazardous situations which can be encountered when adoor is used normally. The sensitive protective device is designedto give a change in the output signal switching device which may beused to provide protection for the person being at risk. It appliesto ready to use sensitive protective device and integratedsensitive protective device (mounted on or connected to a poweroperated door in normal use). This standard only applies to doorsafety devices manufactured after the date ofpublication.
1.2 Exclusions This EuropeanStandard does not apply to protective equipment for installation ondoors which are intended for a different use than the one describedabove such as: lock gates and dock gates; doors on lifts; doors onvehicles; doors mainly for the retention of animals; theatretextile curtains; railway barriers; barriers used solely forvehicles. This standard does not apply to devices used only for thenormal control and stopping, including emergency stopping, of poweroperated doors. This standard does not apply to safety equipment orsafety devices for use on machinery other than doors. This standarddoes not cover operation in environments where the electromagneticdisturbances are outside the range of those specified in EN61000-6-4 or for domestic domestic garage doors those of EN55014-2. This standard does not cover products to be used inpotential explosive atmosphere or on armoured doors. This standarddoes not cover programmable devices (see IEC 61508 series). Thisstandard does not deal with shock resistance of component (exampleIK code). The above exclusions are based on technology used at thepublication time of this standard.
1.3 Door types and applicationsDoors, and gates can be sliding, sidefolding, tilting, pivoting,rolling, vertical lifting, etc. with many variances for each type.If not specified otherwise, the word ”door” refers to any of thesetypes and variances of doors, and gates. This standard does notspecify configuration of the sensitive protective device inrelation to the door to be protected.
