TSI-8130仪器用NaCl法：仪器可以自动产生盐粒子，粒子的平均直径为0.2μm(聚集平均直径0.26μm，算术平均直径0.07μm)经设定在一定流量下通过试样，仪器自动打印出流量、阻力、透过率。
DOP法，使用DOP油发尘，DOP油粒子直径为聚集平均粒径0.33μm，计数平均直径0.20μm。
不同的FFP3类别口罩使用的过滤材料不同。过滤效果一方面和颗粒物粒径有关，还受颗粒物是否含油的影响。FFP3类别口罩通常要按照过滤效率分级，并按是否适合过滤油性颗粒物分类。不含油的颗粒物如粉尘、水基雾、漆雾、不含油的烟（焊接烟）、微生物等。“非油性颗粒物”的过滤材料虽比较常见，但它们不适合油性颗粒物，如油雾、油烟、沥青烟、焦炉烟等。而适合油性颗粒物的过滤材料也可用于非油性颗粒物。
