These requirements cover battery-operated flashlights andlanterns for use in hazardous locations, Class I, Division 1 ,Groups A, B, C and D; Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D;Class II, Division 1 , Groups F and G; and Class II, Division 2,Groups F and G as defined in the National Electrical Code, NFPA70.
These requirements apply to complete products withself-contained batteries, and include products consisting of abattery pack assembly and light assembly with interconnectingflexible cord.
These requirements do not cover flashlights and lanterns of theexplosion-proof type or other type of construction providingprotection against ignition of flammable gas- or vapor-airatmospheres. Flashlights and lanterns that are intrinsically safefor Class I, Division 1 are covered by the Standard forIntrinsically Safe Apparatus and Associated Apparatus for Use inClass I, II, and III, Division 1 , Hazardous (Classified)Locations, UL 91 3. Flashlights designed for Zones 0, 1 , and 2 arecovered by the Standards for Electrical Apparatus for Explosive GasAtmospheres, UL 60079 series.
These requirements cover equipment for use under the followingatmospheric conditions:
a) A minimum ambient temperature of minus 25°C (minus 13°F);
b) An oxygen concentration not greater than 21 percent byvolume; and
c) A nominal barometric pressure of one atmosphere.
