UL2089
These requirements cover portable adapters rated 24 volts dc orless that are intended to be supplied from the battery-poweredelectrical system of a vehicle and used in accordance with theNational Electrical Code, NFPA 70. Connection to a vehicleelectrical system in which the vehicle chassis is connected to thenegative side of the battery supply, is by means of a connectorintended for insertion into the cigarette lighter receptacle.Vehicle battery adapters may supply outputs for appliances such asportable radios, tape players, battery chargers, and tools.
Products covered by this standard include:
a) Cord assemblies consisting of the connector for insertioninto a cigarette lighter receptacle, adjacent cord, and connectorintended for connection to an appliance; and
b) Units consisting of the connector for insertion into acigarette lighter receptacle, adjacent cord, and permanentlyattached filtering or regulating circuitry which may include anadditional enclosure, output cord, and connector or batteryreceptacle.
This standard does not cover products intended for marine use inareas where ignition-protected equipment is required.
Power inverters intended to be supplied from the cigarettelighter receptacle of a vehicle are covered by the requirements inthe Standard for Power Converters/Inverters andPower-Converter/Inverter Systems for Land Vehicles and MarineCraft, UL 458.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components,materials, or systems new or different from those covered by therequirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire,electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using theappropriate additional component and end-product requirements asdetermined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety asoriginally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A productwhose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systemsconflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standardcannot be judged to comply with this standard. Where consideredappropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed and adoptedin conformance with the methods employed for development, revision,and implementation of this standard.
