These requirements cover household cooking equipment that isfloor or cabinet supported, wall-mounted, counter mounted, orcombinations thereof, rated 600 V or less, for installation inaccordance with the National Electrical Code.
These requirements also cover ventilating hoods that areprovided as an integral part of the cooking equipment, or that areseparately supported on the building structure but arranged forfactory-provided electrical connection to the cooking equipmentwith which they are intended to be used.
These requirements do not cover commercial cookingappliances.
These requirements do not cover special types of householdcooking appliances. However, if such appliances are used as a partof a range, oven, surface assembly, or combination thereof, theywill be judged on the basis of compliance with the requirements inthis standard, insofar as they apply, and further appropriateexamination and tests in accordance with the applicablerequirements for electric heating appliances. These requirements donot cover all tests required on household cooking appliances havingmicrowave ovens.
For the purpose of these requirements, cooking equipmentincludes ranges, ovens, surface assemblies, or combinationsthereof. A range is considered to be a combination of a surfaceassembly with one or more ovens. Wall-mounted cooking equipment isconsidered to be those appliances intended for mounting in or on awall or other vertical surface of a building or cabinet.Counter-mounted cooking equipment is considered to be thoseappliances intended for mounting in or on a counter or otherhorizontal surface of a building or cabinet.
In the following text, a requirement that applies only to one,two, or three of the classes of equipment coming within its scope –ventilating hoods, ranges, wall-mounted ovens, counter-mountedcooking units, or combinations thereof – are so identified. In theabsence of such specific reference, or if the term appliance isemployed, it is to be understood that the requirement applies toall of these classes of equipment.
