This European Standard establishes safety re forform, fill and seal packaging machines and the filling machineswhich are particularly associated with them. This group of machinesis defined in detail in clause 3 of this standard, with diagramsillustrating examples of the principle of operation of each machinetype. Form, fill and seal machines may incorporate mechanical,electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic mechanisms which present avariety of different hazards including crushing, shearing, cutting,drawing-in and entanglement.

2） Handwheels手轮
Handles or spoked handwheels are sometimes provided to operatemachines manually for adjustment or cleaning. These devices canpresent impact or entanglement hazards.

Typically, form, fill and seal machines are constructed tohandle a range of product and pack sizes. Changes from size to sizemay be performed manually or automatically.

Where change parts are involved excessive effort or strainhazards can arise if the weight of the parts is greater than 25 kgor their location on the machine is awkward.

Where size changing is automatic, shearing and crushinghazards are likely to be present.

Pneumatic and hydraulic e presents crushing, shearing,ejection of parts, explosion and injection of fluids hazards. Inaddition hydraulic oil and pneumatic lubricating oil are apotential fire hazard and can contaminate agri-foodstuffs.

6） Agri-foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals农产品、药品
On machines which are used to pack agri-foodstuffs andpharmaceuticals, contamination hazards can result if inappropriatecontact materials or construction methods are used or lubricatedcompressed air is allowed to come into contact with theproduct.

7） Packaging materials and products包装材料
Form, fill and seal machines are used to pack a wide range ofproducts in many types of packaging materials, some of which arepotentially hazardous to persons operating or in the vicinity ofthe packaging machine. Hazards include
a) inhalation of harmful substances e.g. insecticides,aggressive or harmful chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fumes from overheated glue or packaging materials;
