Introduction
KONSEMI eMMCis an embedded MMC solution designed in a BGA package form. eMMCoperation is identical to a MMC device and thereforeis a simple read and write to memory using MMC protocol v5.1 whichis a industry standard. eMMC consistsof NAND flash and a MMC controller. 3V supply voltage is requiredfor the NAND area (VDDF) whereas 1.8V supply voltage (VDDor VCCQ) is supported for the MMC controller. KONSEMI eMMC supportsHS400 in order to improve sequential bandwidth,especially sequential read performance. There areseveral advantages of using eMMC. It is easy to use as the MMCinterface allows easy integration with any microprocessorwith MMC host. Any revision or amendment of NAND is invisible tothe host as the embedded MMC controller insulates NANDtechnology from the host. This leads to faster product developmentas well as faster times to market. The embeddedflash management software or FTL (Flash Transition Layer) of eMMCmanages Wear Leveling, Bad Block Management andECC. The FTL supports all features of the different kind of NANDflash and achieves optimal performance.
